Do I need to rent? I'd just rather buy my instrument now...
Most students rent instruments because it provides a quality instrument at a fraction of the purchase price. It is also the best way to insure that your student has a quality instrument. In most cases, rental companies also have protection plans in place that cover accidental damage to your instrument. This helps make sure that your child consistently has a working instrument from week to week.
In addition, if you rent, your rental payments often build credit towards future purchase of any future instrument, regardless of whether you switch instruments or not. You simply need to maintain your rental from year to year to maintain your rental credit. Be sure to check with your rental company to clarify any terms and conditions of your rental agreement.
If you are interested in purchasing an instrument right away, DO NOT BUY ONE FROM AMAZON! The instruments on Amazon (e.g., Mendini or Glory) are not made with quality materials and often break prematurely. If you are interested in renting, please consult our buying guide or email your child's music teacher!
We are also proud to offer a limited number school owned instruments to students in need. Zeswitz Music also provides a "no-questions asked" scholarship that can provide instruments as well. If you are interested in our scholarship program please connect wtih your child's music teacher or school counselor.
When I go to rent my instrument, do I need a lesson book too?
Yes, all fourth and fifth grade students need the assigned lesson book for their instrument; Essential Elements Book 1. Sixth through eighth grade students should check the supply lists for required texts from their music teacher. Third grade students use teacher supplied materials.
